FINE OF £25
GERALDINE BOOKMAKER Charged in the Timaru Police Court on Saturday with carrying on the business of a bookmaker, at Geraldine, on April 16, George Glover, boarding house keeper, admitted the offence and was fined £25 by Mr Morgan, S.M. At his own request he was given a month in which to pay the fine. Glover was not operating in an exceptionally big way, said DetectiveSergeant E. M. Thomas. He was a boarding house keeper at Geraldine and acted as an agent for a Christchurch bookmaker. Glover had been perfectly frank when arrested. He did not have betting slips in his possession when he was arrested, but the races at Christchurch had been postponed. Mr Morgan: What have you got to say?
Glover: I was only in a small way, sir. Mr Morgan: You know that there is a very heavy fine fixed for offences of this sort. You will be fined £25.
