WINTER RELIEF
LOCAL BODY PROGRAMMES By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, April 16. Local bodies in the South Island were responding very well to his suggestion that winter relief programmes should be arranged well ahead, said the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, to-day. Prospective work had been arranged in various parts of the South Island that could not be put in hand now because men were not available, but no doubt they would be available, when seasonal employment was completed. The idea was to know exactly how to place men when they have finished their present jobs. When the opportunity offered, he intended to visit parts of the North Island with the object of having relief programmes put in hand.
