AUSTRALIAN DAIRYING

STABILISATION PLAN VIEWS OF MR W. J. POLSON SYDNEY, March 25. Advantages enjoyed by Australia-1 dairy farmers which are not available in New Zealand were emphasised oy Mr W. J. Polson, M.P. for Stratford, a member of the New Zealand delegation to the Empire Producers' Conference, which will commence in Sydneyon Monday. “Although I am a sheep-breeder, I am interested in dairying, particularly in the wonderful stabilisation plan here, which gives producers a great advantage over us,” Mr Polson said. “Australian dairy farmers are much to be envied. New Zealand has a smail internal market, and I should say it absorbs only about 16 to 20 per cent, of its dairy production. "Conditions are different in Australia, and it is the small market which makes it difficult for us to do anything. Our Labour Government has t ken control of dairy produce and it is owned and marketed by the Government. There is divided opinion in New Zealand whether this is working to the advantage of the dairy farmer. Personally, I feel that the farmer is- best able to market his own produce.” The chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board, Mr A. J. Murdoch, said the experience of Australian conditions gained at the conference would be beneficial to New Zealand delegates. It was to be hoped that both countries would be able to work in collaboration
