Mr and Mrs B. E. H. Tripp, “Orielton.” are on a visit Christchurch. Miss Olive Hassell, “Carshalton,” North Street, is on a visit to her sister, Mrs J. Barrie Martin, Wellington.

Mr and Mrs F. H. Drewitt, Grosvenor Hotel, left yesterday to join the Awatea for a trip to Sydney. Mrs J. D. Douglas who has been spending a few weeks in Timaru has left for Greymouth.

Miss Esther Higgins, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs W. Hettrick, Waimate.

Mrs G. W. Ward and Miss S. Ward Temuka, are the guests of Mrs B. Fenwick. Totara Valley. Mrs P. C. Vinnell. Otipua Road, will leave to-day on a visit to Central Otago. Mrs J. E. Macassey, Dunedin, who as the guest of Mrs R. S. Elworthy, “Four Peaks.” has returned south.

Mrs K. E. Russell who has been staying with her daughter Mrs T. McLean, Studholme Street, Temuka, has left for her new home in Christchurch.

Miss Ethel Shanks who has been in the nursing staff of the Akaroa Hospi-

tai is staying with her mother, Mrs J. G. Shanks, Wai kora, Grey Road. Miss Ethel Willis, who staying with Mrs Arthur Wigley, “‘Opuha Lodge,' Park Lane, will return to-day to Christchurch. The Mayor and Mayoress of Waimate. Mr and Mrs G. Dash, have returned to Waimate after a holiday spent at Hanrr.er Springs. If the Dionne quintuplets should ever be mixed up it would still be possible to tell them apart by their fingerprints. In the fifty digits of the five the ulnar loop predominates, meaning l\ at the ridges on the skin curve towr/ds the thumb, bend, and then return towards the little finger. (The ulna is the inner and larger of the wo bones of the forearm. The Dionnes have 41 ulnar loop patterns. Little Marie and Therese have them on all fingers. Cecile and Rose lack the pattern on one finger. Though the children are all •‘ulnars’ they are not relegated to the same classification The number of ridges around the ulnar varies widely in the fifty fingers In addition there are also imperfections of pattern and minor differences. So a fingerprint expert would have no difficulty in telling one Dionne from another.

A most enjoyable time was spent in the Orange Hall on Saturday, the occasion being a farewell to Mr and Mrs T. R. Hutcheon and family who are leaving Timaru shortly. The evening* was spent in games and dancing. After supper Mr W. Smith asked Mr and Mrs Hutch on to accept a pair of blankets and a hearth rug on behalf of those present.
