JUDGING MANNEQUIN PARADES

To the Editor oi " The Timaru Herald ” Sir, —Through the medium of your paper, might I enquire from anyone who knows, what principle was used in the judging of the mannequin parade in connection with the North End Fair. Being a regular attender at the Fair, I, like many others, formed my opinion as to which contestant* deserved the highest honour. At the conclusion of the Fair, by adding the points I had given eacl competitor for each display, I formed an unbiased opinion as to which mannequin deserved the title of winner. On hearing the official announcement on Saturday evening, I was not exactly disappointed, as each mannequin was worthy of high praise, but judging from public opinion which tallied with my decision, I had a feeling that the honours were to a certain extent misplaced. Might I ask what points are generally considered most in such a contest? To my mind points should be awarded according to the following: General appearance, carriage, poise, frock, ability to display frock, gracefulness, together with a confident and natural attitude. Am I right in forming my judgn ent along these lines, or did the judges have a more efficient method of deciding the winner? Curiosity offers the reason for the writing of this letter, and I would be grateful if any of your readers could enlighten me on the subject. Thanking you and the services of your paper—l am, etc., UNBIASED SUPPORTER. Timaru, March 30.
