Morton and Co. Ltd. advertise a property sale to be held in their Mart to-morrow on account of a deceased estate. The property, on which is erected a blacksmith's shop and other improvements, is situated at Washdyke. The sale will be held at 2.15 p.m. To-day commencing at 2 p.m, Morton and Co. Ltd., will hold a clearance sale of household furniture on account of Mrs K. E. Russell, at 37 Evans Street. Among the items is an upright grand piano (Henry Sims and Co.), Chesterfield suite, Wilton carpet, dining and bedroom furniture. Y.W.C.A. basket ball teams will commence the season’s play on Saturday, at the South School ground at 2.30 p.m. As one of the special preparations for the arrival on April 12 of the Canadian Pacifjc cruise liner Empress of Britain, the Auckland Harbour Board has been dredging at the eastern side of Prince’s wharf, at which the huge 42,350-ton ship will be berthed. t was reported to the board yesterday that the diedge Hapai was “skimming up” the area to provide a minimum depth of 35ft at low water. It was stated later that the dredging was a precautionary measure, since the water was deep enough in any case to accommocate the Empress of Britain, which is not expected to draw more than about 31ft. There would be no difficulty in providing more than sufficient draught.
