OTIPUA

METHODIST GARDEN PARTY Bright sunshine prevailed for th« garden party organised by the Timaru South Methodists at the homestead of Mr and Mrs S. K. Withell. Otipua. The afternoon was spent in games ano competitions while brisk business was done at the various stalls. The senior circuit steward, Mr W Hocking, welcomed all present and expressed his deep gratitude to Mr ana Mrs Withell for the use of their beautiful home and grounds. He was sorry that the Rev. H. C. was unavoidably absent, but he haa received a telegram from him conveying his best wishes for a successful function. Mr Hocking then introduced the Rev. B. James, Banks Street Church, Timaru, who expressed his profound pleasure to be able to De amongst the parishioners of a neighbourly Methodist Church. He wished them a successful day and hoped that under their new minister, the Rev. H. Hopper, they would all work as wed for him as they had for Mr Matthews. Floral tributes were presented to Mrs S. K. Withell and Mrs James by Audrey Pettigrew. Those in charge of the stalls were:— cake, Mesdames Guthrie, Smith, Morgan, McGregor; afternoon tea. Kensing Guild and Bible Class; work stall. Misses Webb, Mauger, Hocking; sweets stall. Mrs Bartholemee and Callier, Misses Simmons and Parmen*er; ice cream, Misses Butt and Simmons. The winners of competitions were, cake, Mr M. Priest; rooster. Rev. B. James; naildriving, Mr J. Parmenter and Mrs P. Campbell; bagatelle, Mi's Robinson; golf, Colin Thompson HARVEST THANKSGIVING At the Harvest Thanksgiving festival in St. Mark’s Church, Otipua, there was a large attendance. The Ucar, the Rev. H. J. Hopkins, took for his text "Remember thy Creator in the days of thy youth.” The many gifts of produce were subsequently despatched to the St. Saviour’s Orphanage. PERSONAL Miss G. Whitefield and Mr G. Whitefield, Kelso, Southland, are spending a holiday with their grandmother, Mrs Whitefield. Miss I. Watson and Mr B. Watson, who have been camping at Lake Tekapo. have returned home. Mrs R. Stewart, Wellington, is the guest of her daughter Mrs S. Withell. Mr and Mrs Emmerson, Lincoln, are the guests of Mr and Mrs F. Emmerson.
