NEW HYDRO WORKS
CABINET’S APPROVAL AWAITED By Telegraph—Press Association NAPIER. March 12 Another hydro-electric works is soon to be established at Waikaremoana. tl j Hon. R. Semple said. “It has not yet received approval of the Cabinet, but personally it has my approval. We are developing another power station there at a cost of nearly £1,000,000. Under this scheme the water used will come through the existing works, allowing it to be employed a second time, instead of running to waste. The job is on the programme now. Estimates have been completed, and plans are ready, and all that has to be done is to get the Cabinet to approve. Prob' bly that will be done during the coming week. When this is brought about there will be plenty of electricity for the country districts.” The Minister added. ‘‘The position is that unless some steps are taken there is certain to be a shortage of electricity in a few years, and we have vision enough not to wait until . it shortage occurs before making provision, but to make provision ahead.”
