RIVER CONTROL

BOARD AND UNIONS DIFFER By Telegraph—Press Association NAPIER, March 11. The Hawke’s Bay Rivers’ Board has closed down the Ngaruroro river control scheme “owing to the impossible situation which has arisen as a result of the attitude of the laoourers and drivers’ unions as a result of the decision of the Court.” Mr J. Miller, S.M., recently gave a decision favouring the board in an action brought by the unions alleging breaches of agreements. The unions had given notice of their Intention to appeal and claim travelling allowances, etc., in the meantime which the board is unable to pay.
