PLEASANT POINT

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS The Presbyterian Hall presented a most pleasing appearance with the long tables spread for tea in connection with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the opening of St. John’s Church, and when the hour came the place was soon filled with an overflow table outside for the children. Apologies for absence were received from the Rev. G. D. Falconer, Mr and Mrs John Norton and Miss Norton, and Mesdames Goldie and J. W. Aitken. A good many previous members were present from Timaru and surrounding districts, while places of honour were given to the Rev. and Mrs G. S. King, who were in charge when the church was built, and the Rev. A. F. Sutherland, Moderator of Timaru Presbytery. An interesting part in the proceedings was the lighting of candles on a beautifully decorated birthday cake, by the Moderator, and past and present ministers and their wives. The candles were blown out by Mrs Marshall, senr. Mrs M. Stewart presented bouquets to Mrs King and Mrs McNeur, and when Mrs King rose to cut the cake, she expressed her great pleasure at being present on such a happy occasion. At the Thanksgiving service in the church the Moderator of the Presbytery gave the address, and the Revs. G. S. King and W. McNeur also took part. The choir sang the Te Deum and the anthem “Evening Shadows.’’ At the concluding social, the Rev. G. S. King gave an address. Instrumental items were contributed by Miss Dorothy Maze, Mrs and Miss P. Davison, while choir members gave vocal items which were much appreciated. Mr McNeur extended a welcome to all visitors and especially to several newcomers who were present.
