GIANT FLYING BOATS FOR TASMAN SERVICE United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright (Received February 22. 9.35 p.m.) MELBOURNE, February 22. The Minister of Defence (Mr Thorby) announces that giant flying boats, nearly twice the size of the Centaurus, are being designed in England for the trans-Tasman air service Mr Thorby pointed out that although the recent Tasman crossing by the Centaurus was highly successful, it would be impossible to make a commercial success of a service with aircraft of such a small payload as the Centaurus.
