WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

WINCHESTER At the monthly meeting of the Winchester Women's Institute motions of sympathy were passed to Mesdames Louden and Priest and relatives in their recent bereavement. A welcome was accorded visitors from Invercargill, Mesdames Robertson and McGrath. Congratulations were extended to Mrs Telfer on the birth of a son. Mrs Louden gave a report on the training school scheme. Dr. Mclnnes gave a very interesting talk on hydatids. Mrs J. South, on behalf of the Institute, thanked the speaker for his instructive talk and said by talks to the women’s organisations, the men would be stirred up to do something. A buttonhole competition resulted— Mrs Mcßratney 1, Mrs N. Priddle 2. Mrs Gudsell 3. The monthly competition results were—Raspberry jam, Mrs J South 1 and 3. Mrs McLelland 2. Cherry plum jam, Mrs J. South 1, Mrs Mcßratney 2, Mrs McClelland 3. Bloom, Mrs McBratney 1 and 2, Mesdames Gudsell and South equal 3. Shrub. Mrs McBratney 1 and 2, Mrs J. South 3. Single women’s section, raspberry jam, Miss D. Opie 1. Miss Lorna Priddle 2 and 3. Cherry plum jam—Miss Priddle 1 and 2, Miss D. Opie 3. Bloom—Miss D. Opie 1 and 2, Misses N. and Doreen Opie equal 3. Shrub, Miss Doreen Opie 1 and 2, Mabel Opie 3.
