DRENCHING RAIN

DAMAGE TO LATE CROPS By Telpgrrph—Press Association GISBORNE, February 18 Steady rain fell throughout the district to-day, the whole countryside being thoroughly drenched. In spite of the downpour the main roads up to to-night caused little trouble except for the East Coast road, on which cars could not. travel past Tokomaru Bay. The wet weather of the last few days, while ensuring adequate water supplies to carry farmers over the remainder of the'summer without fear of a shortage, caused considerable damage to late crops. In some cases the losses may be fairly extensive. The Tolaga Bay races set down for to-morrow have been postponed till Tuesday next.
