FOUNDERS DAY SERVICE
All Troops and Packs are reminded of Founder’s Day Service to be held in the Bay Hall on Sunday, February 20, at 2.30 p.m. All in full uniform to assemble at the hall not later than 2.15 p m. PACK AND SCOUT TROOPS Packs and Troops have commenced their meetings for the ’New Year after a vacancy of six weeks, so we wish them all success and good hunting all who hear the Jungle Call. THE STORY The little Campfire Sing-Song which is good fun may sometimes be crowded out, but whatever happens we must find space for that crowning point of every Pack meeting—the story. This is the upstairs window from which we can give our Cubs the widest view, showing them so much of the bright and happy, the strong and splendid things of life, which are so often hidden by the cramped surroundings of their lives. All the shared happiness of the meeting draws us close as a family, and prayers are a simple, but most sincere, acknowledgment of our duty to God. the first and biggest part of our Promise. Then to bring all to a satisfying and orderly close, Flag Down and Howl. There we have a thoroughly normal Pack meeting, without frills of any kind, but one which
has kept in mind all the essentials. One which makes provision for every Cub to learn something new and feel that he is making progress; which uses the Six as a team, both for work and games, allowing the Sixes that taste of leadership and of Akela’s trust in them which is so helpful to character building. There is no end to the variations which we can make in the programme which we build around our Tenderpad framework, and they will all be programmes in which the Cub ideals contained in the Promise are accepted and used as a way of living. —From “Scout." MAKE A SIX BOX A SPECIAL JOB FOR THE SIXER If you are a Sixer, you want, of course, to help your Pack and Akela as much as you can. Well, here’s a little job you can do. Make and keep a Six box. Ask your grocer if he can let you have a box with a lid. It must have a lid or the contents will get dirty and untidy. If you can get it, it’s a good plan to give your box a coat of paint, but that doesn’t really matter. Now, in black paint mark on the inside of the lid the name of your Six. Then paint a wolf’s head on the front of the box and on top of the lid. Now your box is ready and you have to fill it. This is what you will need:— 6 ropes for knotting. 2 balls. 2 longer ropes for skipping. 6 pencils. 3 very old books for balancing. A pad of writing paper. 2 sticks of chalk. And, if you can afford it, a box of plasticene and a box of crayons. If you show your box and this list to Akela, I am sure she will agree to let you have the things to put in it. Some of them your Pack may have already, and some may have to be bought new. Once the box is stocked, then it is your job, as Sixer, to keep it clean and full. When the pencils wear down too small to be used, ask Akela for some new ones. Akela will appreciate your help, because it means that she won’t have to worry about what the Pack needs. She will know that when anything wears out you’ll be sure to tell her. —From “Scout.”
