PLEA FOR JEWS

BRITISH APPEAL TO RUMANIA United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, January 7. Commander Oliver Locker-Lampson, M.P., has telegraphed King Carol of Rumania, as follows: “As leader of the only British unit in Rumania during the war, I respectfully protest against the treatment of minorities. M. Goga (the new Prime Minister) is making it difficult for Englishmen to wear Roumanian medals. Loyal supporters of your Majesty expect you to restore the liberties for which the English and Roumanian armies successfully fought.” PRIME MINISTER’S ASSURANCE MEETS BUSINESS MEN’S DELEGATION United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 9, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON January 7. Tire Bucharest correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph” says that the Prime Minister (M. Goga) assured a delegation of British business men that he shared the high esteem in which Britain had always been held in Rumania. He added that King Carol’s forthcoming visit to Britain would strengthen English-Rumanian ties, and he assured members of the deputation that they could always come to him if they suffered through any misinterpretation of the forthcoming legislation. The Budapest correspondent of “The Times” reports that the British representations to Rumania regarding the minorities were received with most profound relief by Hungarian public opinion, which was watching M. Goga’s activities with the deepest concern. It is realised that the measures directed in the first place against the Jews could not fail to react unfavourably against the Magyar minority. GERMAN PRESS ATTACKS BRITAIN EXPRESSES DISPLEASURE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 9, 7.30 p.m.) BERLIN, January 9. Mr Henderson, during informal conversations al the Foreign Office, directed attention to the British displeasure regarding the German attacks following the British representations to Rumania concerning the Jews.
