TIMARU RECORDS (Corrected to Summer Time.) Sun rose at Timaru to-day 5.1 a.m.; sets 8.5 p.m. High water at Timaru to-day, 7.47 a.m.; 8.11 p.m. PHASES OF THE MOON

CONDITIONS IN TIMARU Timaru sweltered yesterday beneath exceptionally hot weather, the temperature, 85.2 degrees, being the highest since last summer. In the afternoon, however, the sky took on a threatening appearance, although conditions remained fine and warm, and in the evening the hot, sultry air gave place to a cool southerly wind. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:—

IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: The weather yesterday was hot and oppressive with a strong north-west wind in the morning. In the afternoon the wind abated somewhat. The maximum temperature was 77.3 degrees. The barometer was falling slowly. Geraldine: Bright and exceptionally warm till mid-afternoon, when a change in the wind from nor’-west to sou’-west, brought showers.

Temuka: Until late yesterday afternoon the day was fine and close with a maximum temperature of 82 degrees. The minimum recording was 47. Light rain commenced to fall late in the afternoon but the glass was steady last evening.

Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Thermometer, max. 74.0; min., 50.0; bright sunshine, 8 hours 30 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 74. Yesterday was sunny and warm. Dunedin: The sky was overcast yesterday and a heavy shower fell about mid-day. Temperatures were mild, and the barometer was rising in the late afternoon at 29.60 inches. CANTERBURY FORECAST Special to " The Timaru Herald." WELLINGTON, January 7 Winds—Moderate to strong northwesterly, soon turning temporarily to south-west and a more general southerly change probable during Saturday night. Weather —Foi- the most part fair and warm, but with some scattered showers. Seas —Rather rough to rough north of Kaikoura, elsewhere slight to moderate.
