HIGHEST PRICES

BUTTER AND CHEESE BEST CHRISTMAS RETURNS SINCE 1929 SEASON Prices for New Zealand butter and cheese were the highest Christmas rates for the past eight years at the period a week before the commencement of the festive season. The following table gives the highest prices recorded for butter and cheese in London approximately a week before Christmas:—

The 1937 rates have been consistently higher than for the past eight years. The past two years have been the best since the depth of the slump, and this is shown in the following table, which gives the London market prices during the third week in each month for the past three years:

The highest price during 1937 was 152 s at the end of October, while last year the peak was 122 s in August, with October the highest month in 1935, when prices reached 128 s.

The highest price for cheese this year was 74s 6d, secured on four occasions in May, June and July.
