GYMKHANA AT STUDHOLME SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION Favoured by brilliant weather, the second annual Studholme gymkhana which was held on the property of Mr J. Foley, Studholme, yesterday, proved an unqualified success. The programme was handled efficiently by a team of officials under Mr F. J. Henshaw, president, and Mr E. Rollinson, secretary. and a variety of novelty and spectacular events kept a crowd of more than 800 people well amused throughout the afternoon. The horse racing events attracted good fields and splendid racing resulted. A notable performer was the diminutive J. Foley who. in several races, showed the way home to more seasoned riders. His wins were very popular. In the classic event of the day, the Studholme Cup. five doughty draught horses faced the starter. The winner. A. C. Champion, put up a convincing performance to annex the trophy. The other competitors had difficulty in persuading their mounts to back over the final 15 yards. Not so G. A. Nutt, who, although 300 yards

behind the field, managed the last part well to get second.

The steer-riding championship was again a feature of the afternoon and provided its usual quota of thrills. One recalcitrant beast did not wait to be mounted, but smashed down the gate of the pen, scattering the crowd. Four of the eight competitors divided the prize money.

During the afternoon Mr Henshaw thanked the public for their patronage and Mr J. Foley for the use of the paddock. Results:—
