Mr P. R. Kingdon (Christchurch) is staying at the Grand.

Messrs C. E. Rawlings and J. Baker (Christchurch) are at the Balmoral.

Messrs L. Connelly, C, G. Hill (Christchurch), G. Wallace and S. W. Smith (Gore) are staying at the Dominion.

Messrs S. McCausland, C, B. Stuart, W. Garrick, W. Fraser (Dunedin), H. A. Hungerford and H. Kilpatrick (Christchurch) are staying at the Empire.

Mr F. J. Callan was appointed third pilot for the port of Bluff at the monthly meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board. He is chief officer of the Wairuna. Mr James Payne, Assistant Trade Commissioner for Australia in New Zealand, has been notified that he has been appointed assistant commissioner at Cairo.

After serving as musical director and conductor of the Royal Auckland Choir for 32 years, Dr. W. E. Thomas has announced his intention not to seek re-election at the coming annual meeting of the choir.

Mr A. O. Russell, district manager at Christchurch for the AM.P. Society, will shortly retire on superannuation, after 44 years’ service. He joined the service at Hobart in 1893, and has served for 30 years in New Zealand, being stations successively at Nelson, Napier, Wanganui and Dunedin.

Mr D. A. R. Moloney, who returned last week with the New Zealand cricket team, and who is visiting his parents in Dunedin, will leave on Monday to take up a position in Wellington, At the time of his selection for the English tour, Mr Moloney was stationed at Palmerston North. After nearly 44 years in the Public Service, Mr David Smith, deputy-Commissioner pf Crown Lands, North Auckland, will retire on December 3L Mr Smith joined the Lands and Survey Department in Dunedin to 1894, and has served to the Wellington, Auckland, Invercargill and North Auckland offices,
