MEDICAL BATTLE
BLOOD TRANSFUSION FOR RARE DISEASE (Received November 28. 7.8 p.m.) WINDSOR (Ontario), Nov. 26. Another patient named Robert Schaeffer, who is suffering from the same disease'as Weston Fletcher, w s given a blood transfusion last night. Ernest Van Sickle (40), a Canadian war ace, donated the blood, which was transferred to Fletcher. Sickle contracted what is believed to be the identical infection after his 'plane was shot down in France. Fletcher made no immediate response, and the result will not be known for several days. RESPONSE IN ENGLAND OFFER TO GO TO CANADA (Received November 28, 7.30 pun.) LONDON, November 28. In response to the appeal for blood transfusion, Edgar Stanford, of Essex, the only known survivor of the disease, volunteered to go to Canada. Canadian doctors recently reported that an invalid named Weston Fletcher, was certain to die from a rare streptococcus infection, unless somebody, who had recovered from the disease, could be found in order to give a blood transfusion.
