SWIMMING
INSTRUCTION OF CHILDREN By Telegraph—Press Association OAMARU, November 26. The opinion that swimming should be a compulsory item in every school curriculum was expressed by the Mayor of Oamaru, Mr M. F. Cooney, when the Borough Council was discussing the “Learn to Swim Week." The present method, he said, was spasmodic. Voluntary instruction was not good enough. Every child should be taught to swim. It was high time the Education Department moved in the matter, which was a national, not a parochial one.
