SWIMMING CLUB
PROSPECTS FOR SEASON The Committee of the Geraldine Swimming Club met on Thursday evening to make arrangements for the coming season. The president, Mr J. D. McKechnie occupied the chair. The secretary of the Geraldine Football Club (Mr W. McCullough) advised that his Club was considering the erection of hot and cold showers at the Domain Oval, and would be pleased to discuss the possibilities of a combined effort. It was decided to reply that the Swimming Club had no funds available for the purpose at the moment. In reply to a question regarding responsibility for accidents at the baths, the secretary of the Geraldine Domain Board quoted the borough bylaws, which stated that children using the baths whilst attending school or during school holidays must be attended by some adult person, appointed by the School Committee or headmaster of the school. A further by-law stated that the Council did not hold itself responsible for any accidents occurring to persons frequenting the baths.
The president remarked that he had attended at the baths frequently last season when a system of voluntary supervision had been arranged for Saturday afternoons. The provision of a caretaker was beyond the financial capacity of the Club. After further discussion it was decided to read the letter at the annual meeting. It was decided to empty and clean the baths on Monday, and to hold the annual meeting of the Club at the Town Hall slipper-room at 8 o’clock on Monday evening.
