Nov. 26. 12.4 a.m. CONDITIONS IN TLMARU Overcast and close conditions prevailed for most of yesterday after a light frost, and although there was a continual promise of rain the only fall experienced was a few drops about 5 p.m. The weather was clear in the evening. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer—3o.o2. Max. temp.—6s.4. Min. temp, on grass—3l.2. Frost—.B degrees. Wind—N.N.E.3. Rainfall—Nil. Rainfall to date this year—l7.o9ins. Rainfall to date last year—24.2oins. Sunshine—l. 4 hours. Sunshine to date this year—ls 64.9 hours.

IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch— The weather was warm and sultry yesterday, though overcast for the greater part of the day. A light north-north-east wind changed to a moderate north-west breeze in the afternoon. The maximum temperature during the day was 71.6 degrees. The barometer reading at 5 p.m. was 29.43. Ashburton—The weather yesterday was again warm. Conditions in the morning were close, the sky being overcast, with occasional bursts of sunshine, and there being only a light northerly wind. There was a maximum shade temperature of 81.4 degrees on Monday afternoon, this being the highest so far recorded this summer. A fairly strong southerly wind arose at night, and the sky was covered with low lying clouds, but no rain resulted, and conditions were normal again in the morning. Geraldine—Bright sunshine during the morning, dull and overcast in the afternoon. Temuka—After a fine warm morning yesterday afternoon was dull with rain threatening. The maximum temperature was 70 degrees and the minimum 44. The glass was falling last evening. Waimate for 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday)—Thermometer. maximum 78, minimum 61; bright sunshine, 2 hours 48 minutes. Wind gauge (miles run in last 24 hours), 65. Yesterday was overcast and mild. Dunedin—The sky was overcast today and there was a cool breeze from the north-east, which brought mist to the hills surrounding the city. The sun shone intermittently in the afternoon and the temperature reached a maximum of 65 degrees. The barometer fell sharply to 29.45 inches.

CANTERBURY FORECAST

Special to " The Timaru Herald.” Winds.—Moderate to strong northwesterly, backing to westerlies or southwesterlies by Wednesday morning and a more general southerly change probable within about 36 hours. Weather. —Changeable and with scattered showers, later becoming more general, temperatures falling. Seas.—Rough north of Kaikoura, elsewhere slight to moderate but increasing.
