MR LLOYD bEORGE CRITICISED CHARGES “GRAVE AND SCANDALOUS” SENSATION CAUSED BY OUTBURST United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON. October 19. An official Rome communique specifically refers to Mr Lloyd George's statement criticising Italy’s participation in Spam as grave and scandalous, as cqming from a former Prime Minister whose age should recommend care. "It is time these shameless manoeuvres were ended,” says the communique, “enabling a peaceful study of the situation. There are at present no illusions regarding the good faith of Italy’s opponents.” The statement has caused a sensation in foreign diplomatic circles. Those who are well informed detect Il Duce’s style in the bitterness of this outburst preceding the new nonintervention meeting, although Italian officials subsequently stated that it is not intended to hinder the work ot non-intervention. Mr Lloyd George, in a speech at Carnarvon, said: “As one of the senior Privy Councillors, whose duty to bis Sovereign and country is to give such advice as his experience indicates, I urge Mr Eden to fearlessly take the course which his conscience dictates, whatever his colleagues say. When he tires of being bullied and stands up for what he really believes, he will be the biggest man in Britain.” Mr Lloyd George added that nonintervention was a cruel, lying sham. Signor Mussolini and Herr Hitler had sent 100,000 men to Spain. The Italians were sending troops each week, ostensibly to Libya, but many were going to Spain. The Spanish Embassy, replying to a Rome communique, says that the Government has information that there are 110,000 Italians in Spain.
