GERALDINE
IMPROVEMENTS AT DOMAIN SWEET PEA FENCE A recent improvement to the Geraldine Domain has been the erection of a sweet pea fence which will enhance the display of blooms later in the season. The fence, which runs the full width of the flower bed, is constructed with concrete posts, which rise sft 9in above the surface of the ground. Steel rods link post to post, and they are so arranged that the netting Is woven through them, and clamps let into the concrete posts provide for the dismantling of the fence at any time. The contrast to the former brush fence up which the sweet peas formerly climbed is most pleasing, and the new fence is a decided asset to the Domain. The sweet peas have always presented a beautiful sight when In bloom, and the park curator, Mr H. Coombes, greatly appreciates the erection of a proper structure which will show them to advantage. On the Domain side of Hislop Street between Cox street and the Main South Road the flowering cherry trees have been staked, but the staking of the remaining portion of the avenue has not yet been completed. Although the trees were planted only on September 7 last the majority of them are now showing bloom, and give promise of a blaze of colour when they are more fully grown.
