PLEASANT POINT

RIFLE CLUB’S SOCIAL The annual ball and presentation of trophies of the Pleasant Point Miniature Rifle Club was held last Thursday evening in the Town Hall. Nearly 200 couples were present. The hall was tastefully decorated with coloured streamers and greenery, and along one wall was a row of possibles made during the season. A very fine display of trophies on the stage Created a great deal of interest. Mr Malcolmson, president of the Club, welcomed visitors from surrounding clubs and expressed thanks to all those who had assisted the club in any way. He then called on Mr W. Duncan, president of the South Island Miniature Rifle Association, to present the trophies won during the season. In his remarks Mr Duncan said he Was very impressed with the array of trophies and complimented those concerned for the manner in Which they were displayed. Music for the dance was supplied by a Tlmaru orchestra. Mr E. Wright was M.C. Monte Carlo prizes were won by Mr V. Murphy and Miss F. Chapman. A competition was woh by Miss D. Davison. The trophy list was as follows:—W. T. Taylor, club champion, most possibles, Wilson gold bullet, and Mr Maze’s trophy. E. Chapman, second club championship ahd No. 13 trophy. C. Thoreau, third club championship, season’s aggregate and Mr Arnott's trophy. B. Grant, first B grade and No. 12 trophy. R. B. Turnbull, second B grade and Mr Burnett’s silver cup. MUSIC EXAMINATIONS At the recent Trinity College of Music examinations conducted by Mr Anderson Tyrer at St. Joseph’s Convent, all the candidates presented were successful. The following ar'’ the results : Higher Local—Dorothy Davison 77 (merit); Hazel Mowat 76 (merit). Senior—Leonard Bowman 86 (honours); Beattie Taylor 80 (merit). Junior—Josephine Friel 85 (honours), lona Stumbles 79 (merit). Advanced Preparatory—Una M. Blissett 85 (honours). Preparatory Moira Scannell £5 (honours). First Steps—Prudence Ryan 87 (honours), Noreen Friel 86 (honours), John Friel 85 (honours), Betty Hullen 80 (merit), Olive Fleming 79 (merit). Initial Steps—Madeleine Ryan 89 (honours), Evelyn Kelbefg 86 (honours), Betty Brophy 86 (honours), Pauline Brosnahan 85 (honours), Mary Sullivan 85 (honours), Joan Taylor 85 (honours).
