SUPPER PARTY
ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY After the Orchestral Society's concert on Monday evening, a pleasant function took place w’hen about 60 members of the orchestra, the committee and friends were entertained at supper, special guests being the Mayor and Mrs Vinnell. The president, Mr G. H. Andrews, expressed his pleasure at the successful season just concluded, stating that there had been an improvement in the finances of the Society. He congratulated the conductor and the members of the orchestra on the fine performance given that night. Mr Andrews also specially thanked the soloists for their fine work, as well as all those who had in any way helped to make the work of the Society so successful. He earnestly thanked the Mayor and Councillors for valuable assistance rendered to the Society. He regretted that many musicians were leaving Timaru, and there was a possibility of another leaving shortly owing to lack of employment, and he appealed to the employers to help to provide work for valuable members of musical organisations. The Mayor warmly congratulated the conductor and members of the orchest—t, and said the concert had been very successful. He urged all those present to take an interest in such organisations and help the cultural arts of the town. The Mayor also stated that he would be pleased to do all he could in the interests of the Society.. The conductor, Mr Simpson, thanked the previous speakers and urged all the members to attend rehearsals regularly and improve the standard of music generally.
