The Cairo correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph” states that an Italian who returned from Abyssinia asserts that the recent revolt that occurred at Addis Ababa, caused far heavier Italian casualties than were reported. The Italians imagined that the main resistance had ended and in accordance with the furtherance of a wish to raise a large native army, they armed thousands of Abyssinians with modern rifles and machine guns, under Italian officers. The recruits were at first docile and apparently were pleased to become Italian soldiers, but meanwhile they were preparing for a rising. At a pre-arranged signal they turned on the officers, killing all, and attempted to ensnare a general rebellion.
