TASMAN CUP TEAM

AUSTRALIA HAS STRONG SIDE The Australian Tasman Cup team will be one of the strongest to visit New Zealand yet in defence of the trophy. Probably the most outstanding player is Miss Betty Kerr.ot, the 1937 Australian woman champion. She is little over five feet and Fas a drive, which, according to an Australian critic, is like a “steam driven piston.” She has grace of style, accuracy, a fine sense of distance and a g’and temperament. Then there is Miss Shirley Tolhurst, who annexed the title held by Miss Kernot in 1936, and Miss Burtta Cheney, who met Miss Kernot in the finals of the Australian championships. Mrs Sloan Morpeth, formerly Miss Susie Tolhurst is another member of the team, who despite her great fighting powers, was dismissed early in the championship by the youthful Miss Kernot, and admits that the champion

is a champion in all senses of the word. Miss Nell Hutton is the Victorian State champion of this year. Her performances on the links are amazing, and she has well earne'-’ her place with the visitors. The captain-manager of the team is Miss Leo Wray, from the Australian Golf Club, Sydney. All except Miss Kernot, arc members of the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Miss Kernot belonging to Geelong, Victoria.
