COLLIGAN CUP WIN FOR TEMUKA There was a very large attendance at the weekly dance organised by the social committee of the Victoria Hall. Miss M. Blissett played extras. Miss M. White and partner won the Monte Carlo. Messrs W. J. Jackson, W. Waple and John Cripps were M’s.C. FOOTBALL MATCH The Temuka and Sydenham junior teams played a curtain raiser before the Colligan Cup game at Winchester, ■fhe game ended in a win for the Temuka team by 22 pointe to six. For Temuka, Wilson (2), Davis (2), and Ackroyd scored tries. Wilson converted two tries and kicked a penalty goal. For Sydenham, W. Bedelph kicked a penalty and McKernan scored. Mr C. J. DeJoux wa-. refereo. FOOTBALL CLUB DINNER On Saturday evening, Mr and Mrs J. D. Parker entertained the players and officiate of the Temuka and Waihl Football Clubs at a dinner. The Invitation was also extended to some of the members of the South Canterbury Rugby Union and the Referees’ Association and also to the members of St. John Ambulance. Mr and Mrs Parker and the staff of the hotel left no stone unturned to make the function a thorough success and that their efforts were appreciated was evidenced by the congratulatory expressions from those present The chairman, Mr J. C. South, proposed the toast of he South Canterbury Rugby Union. Mr South said they were all aware that the Ruuby Union had had a most strenuous time this year, and hud done a large amount of work in preparing Fraser Park for the Springbok game. They had also sent the South Canterbury representative team away to Cour the North Island. The chairman said they were all pleased that the team had won three out of the four games played. Most of the success achieved was greatly due to the hard work of the members of the Rugby Union and the selection committee. Mr J. H. Harley (president of the Union) thanked Mr and Mrs Parker for the invitation to be present. He spoke eulogistlcally of the members of the Rugby Union and said they had spent a very pleasant time together. They had had a very hard season but with a loyal committee and co-opera-tion of memb°rs they had made several improvements to Fraser Park. It was a hard problem to think what to de to erect B larger bank at Fraser Park. He was pleased that the bank was erected and was there for all time. (Applause.) Mr L. W. Parrant said he had had experience of refereeing in the North Island before coming to South Canterbury and that had stood to him as B selector. He had always done his best to get the best team selected and he thought the team that went on tour was a credit to South Canterbury. (Applause.) He thanked those players wh ohad attended the representative practices. It was unfortunate for them that only 20 players could be selected and some of those who had attended practices had to remain behind. Mr J. Mcßride in proposing the toast of the Temuka Club, said they did not grudge the Temuka Club their win that day as the better tea i had won. It gave him much pleasure in handing the Colligan Cup to the captain (Mr W. McCully) of the Temuka Club. He felt sure that the Waihl Club would do their best to regain the cup next season. Mr McCully returnee thanks on behalf of his club. In proposing the toast of the Waihl Football Club, Mr R. A. Lyall, president of the Temuka Hub, paid a tribute to the good performance of the Waihl Club that afternoon. He hoped ’hat the good, relations between the two clubs would always continue. Mr G. G. South (captain) replied on behalf of the Waihl Club. The toast of “The Referee” was proposed by Mr F. E. Scuth and responded to by Mr C. L. Cutler. “Oldtimers” was proposed by Mr W. Harte and responded to by Messrs C. A. Opie, W. J. Moore and M. Coffey. “St. John Ambulance,’’ by Mr J. H. Harley, responded to by Superintendent C. E. Hooper. “The Ladies," by Mr J. F. K. Jamieson and responded by Mr Austin Morton. "The Host, Hostess and Staff," proposed by the chairman and responded to by Mr and Mrs Parker and Mrs Bailes. During the evening songs were contributed by Messrs J. F. K. Jamieson, M. Coffey, J. J. Breen and C. Gimson. COLLIGAN CUP The annual football match for the Colligan Cup between the Waihl and ■Temuka Football Clubs was played at Winchester on Saturday and was won by Temuka by 17 points to 14. The game was one of the best played on the Winchester ground for many years. Both teams threw the ball about freely and most of the passing rushes gained a large amount of territory. The tackling of both teams was exceptionally good. From a penalty, Ferguson drew first blood for Waihl. Shortly after, passing by Earl, Blyth, Austin and Lane enabled the latter to score at the comer. Ferguson failed with the kick. A passing rush by Blyth, Austin, Leonard and Bums ended in the scoring well out. Austin failed with the kick. Good play by Dwan, McCully, Gi’bert and Sullivan followed and then O'Connor broke away. The ball went to Hopkinson, to Cameron, who sent on to Wilson who went over at the comer. Dwan’s kick went wide. Shortly after Hopkinson sent a pass to Dwan who scored in a handy position. Wilson’s kick went astray. Half-time was called with the scores: Waihl 9, Temuka 6. On resuming, Honkinson scored an easy try, which McCully failed to convert. A long kick r ent to Ferguson (full-back), who missed the ball d Ives, from full-back, followed up end went over for Dwan to add the major points, placing Temuka in the lead 14-9. Blyth sent a long pass to Austin who side-stepped and cut through beautl-

fully to score and convert. Waihi 14, Temukn 14. The last try was scored by Wilson for Temuka, which was unconverted. The final whistle sounded with the scores: Temuka 17, Waihi 14 Mr C. L. Cutler was referee.
