ROMAN CATHOLIC CENTENARY

INTEREST IN AUSTRALIA By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, September 20 The considerable interest which is being taken in Australia in the forthcoming New Zealand Roman Catholic centenary celebrations was remarked upon by Bishop Liston, of Auckland, on his return by the Mariposa to-day, after an absence of four weeks. He had attended the Plenary Council of Australia which had promised to attend the celebrations. Others were coming from the Islands, and two well-known ecclesiastics from the United States, Bishop Murray, of Minnesota, and Bishop Kelley, distinguished author, of Oklahoma. He expected that altogether about 25 prelates will come. The Plenary Council, which Bishop Liston attended in Australia, was the first held in 32 years, the bishops of the two countries meeting in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney, to discuss the affairs of the church.
