PLEASANT VALLEY

QUEEN CARNIVAL On Saturday night a dance was held in the Pleasant Valley Hall in aid of the Citizens’ Queen fund. The arrangements were in the hands of the Citizens' Queen Committee. There was not a large attendance. During the evening Mrs A. G. Brown, the Citizens’ Queen, was presented by Mr Burmester. In introducing Mrs Brown, Mr Burmester thanked all present for their support. Mr A. G. Brown also spoke. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss A. Warne and Mr D. Blissett, and a lucky chain by Miss Tiplady and Mr Jack Leary. Mr T. LeLievre was M.C. Music was supplied by an orchestra. GAPES VALLEY MINIATURE RIFLES A three-comer shoot was held at Gapes Valley on September 16 for the Sercombe Cup, McLeod and Fifield Shield, and S. Rae Cup. Teams from the Pleasant Valley, Gapes Valley and Woodbury Clubs took part. Gapes Valley won the Sercombe Cup with Pleasant Valley second. The scores were as follows: —Gapes Valley: N. Patrick 78, H. Waller 78, E. Barker 79, E. Patrick 79, A. Clements 80; total 394. Pleasant Valley 387, Woodbury 386. The McLeod and Fifield Shield scores were as follows: —Pleasant Valley 764, Gapes Valley 760, Woodbury 760. The S. Rae Cup was competed for by Pleasant Valley and Woodbury. The result was a win for Pleasant Valley who scored 391, Woodbury following with 387. At the conclusion of the shoot the trophies were presented by Mr J. Fifield. FLAG “500” On Tuesday, September 14, the Gapes Valley branch of the Women’s Institute arranged a successful flflag “500” party and dance, those present spending a very enpoyable evening. Mrs H. Bailey (president) welcomed those present, and hoped that all would spend a pleasant evening. Prizes tor the flag “500” were won by Mrs L. Patrick. Mr L. LeLievre and Mr Wallace Crotty. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs E. Patrick, Mrs A. Donnithome and Mr O’Leary (accordeon). Mr Blair was M.C. An enjoyable supper was provided by the ladies.
