CHARITY BALL
FUNCTION IN ST. PATRICK’S HALL This year’s charity ball, held on Tuesday evening in Timaru by the St. Vincent de Paul Society, was an outstanding success. A large number of guests were present in the new St. Patrick’s Hall. The hostesses for the evening were Mrs T. P. Crowe, who wore a black lace gown with a black chiffon velvet coatee, relieved with a red rose, and Mrs T. W. Lynch, who chose a black lace frock and an embossed velvet coatee with freesias pinned to the corsage. The Mayor and Mayoress of Timaru (Mr and Mrs P. C. Vinnell) were guests of honour. Mrs Vinnell wore a gown of black lace. The committee was as follows.— Messrs C. F. B. Clark (president), Mr F. Doyle (vice-president), J. Lysaght (secretary), D. Cronin (treasurer), J. Murray, E. Power, P. Flanaghan, C. Cole, G. Rae, T. Healey, J. O’Gorman and Mesdames Power, Clark, Murray, M. O’Donoghue and M. Healey.
Large bowls of pussy willow and prunus blossom were used to decorate the lounge and ball room, and Iceland poppies made a gay showing on the .supper tables.
