QUEEN CARNIVAL

“BACK TO CHILDHOOD” DANCE One of the most successful dances held in the Geraldine Town Hall this year was the “back-to-childhood” function in aid of the Citizens’ Queen funds, in the Geraldine Sports’ Association’s Queen carnival, on Wednesday night. There was a very representative attendance of citizens, who entered whole heartedly into the spirit of the occasion, with the result that the function was a huge success both socially and financially. The stage was decorated in the Queen’s colours, with green and gold streamers, clumps of wattle and bowls of daffodils. A buffet supper of saveloys and savouries was served in the supper-room. Streamers and balloons added to the gaiety of the scene, as well as the varied costumes of some of the “children.” Novelty dances were won as follow.— Lucky spot waltz, Mrs J. Rae and Mr E. P. Bennett; traffic cop waltz, Miss Margaret Burke and Mr H. Walker; lucky toss one-step, Mr J. Celling and partner. Lively music was provided by an orchestra and Mr W. T. Mayne played extras during the supper interval. Mr LeLievre was M.C. During the evening, Mr T. J. Paterson (secretary of the Citizens’ Queen Committee), introduced the Citizens’ Queen (Mrs A. G. Brown), and the Country Queen (Mrs T. H. Hughes), who were accorded a very hearty reception. Later, the queens were presented with bouquets by Misses Kathleen Trumper and Josephine Moffatt. On behalf of Mrs Brown, Mr A. G. Brown extended thanks to those present for their attendance and good-will, and referred to the fine gesture displayed by Mr and Mrs T. H. Hughes in supporting the Citizens’ Queen Committee’s effort.
