ST. ANDREWS

CROWN TENANTS’ ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the St. Andrews branch of the New Zealand Crown Tenants’ Association was held in the Public Hall. The president, Mr L. Fenwick welcomed Mr D. Barnes. M. and Mr W. H. Collins, vicepresident of the Fairlie branch. The annual report read as follows: Thc year shows a decrease of only two in the membership which is now 42. The year commenced with a credit of £3/10/11 and ended with a credit of £3/8/5. The executive meetings at Timaru have been regularly attended. There are now three members of the South Canterbury Executive on the Canterbury Land Boa. d, Messrs 1 J. Gregan and B. J. Moyle appointed by the Government and Mr D. C. Kidd reelected unopposed during the year as Crown Tenants’ representatives. During the year Mr A. S. Ayrey has been appointed to the local Adjustment Commission. The possibility of the early introduction of a National Superannuation Scheme should be gratifying to members of the branch who three years ago forwarded a remit urging this measure. The executive is still pressing for the establishment of a permanent Crown Tenants’ and Mortgagors’ Appeal Board and it is hoped that this request will be granted in the near future. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr L. R. Fenwick; vice-president, Mr L. R. Bell; secretary, A. G. Morrison; auditor, D. Stowell; delegates to South Canterbury Executive, Messrs L. Fenwick, A. G. Morrison, L. R. Bell, F. Brennan and

J. Bowie; committee, Messrs J. Borman, J. Scannell, J. Bowie, D. Stowell, F. Stocker, H. W. Hewson, J. Packer, J. Daly, F. Brennan. The following remit was passed: “That merchants be asked why sellers of potatoes on trucks are charged for grading and branding.” Supper was handed round after which the president took the opportunity of thanking Mr Barnes for his helpful address. A motion of sympathy with Mr J. Gray in his bereavement was carried in silence. FLAG BRIDGE EVENING Tliis month’s flag bridge evening under the auspices of the Library Committee was well attended. The prizes were won by Mrs Sher* Mrs Foxon and Mr Bannerman.
