FORGERY CHARGE

PLEA OF NOT GUILTY By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, August 9. A sequel to the circulation of a number of forged £5 Reserve Bank notes among shopkeepers in Auckland on Christmas Eve last, was the arrest of a man in Wellington on July 22. He appeared before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning, charged with forging £5 notes and uttering several.

The accused was Charles Alfred Remmers, aged 49, a labourer. He was not represented by counsel. After a number of witness-, called by the police had been heard, Remmers pleaded not guilty to six charges and was committed for trial to the Supreme Court on a charge of forging a £5 Reserve Bank note in Wellington in December. Remmers was remanded to appear at Wellington cn Thursday next .
