FIGHT WITH SHARK

DEFEATED BY SAILOR’S RESOURCE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 9, 8.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 9. During naval manoeuvres at Jervis Bay, while attempting to recover a torpedo, 14 men from the destroyer Waterhen were flung into the water. One, who was unable to swim, clung to a lifeboat and was pursued by a shark. His mate, swimming nearby, detached a calcium flare from the belt and it immediately ignited. The flare was constantly jabbed in the direction of the shark until a launch rescued the whole party.
