Tobacco has no stauncher friend than General Pershing, the famous American soldier, who played a conspicuous part in the World War. As Conimander-in-Chlef of the American Expeditionary Force, so convinced was he of the great value of tobacco in helping to maintain the morale of his troops that he cabled to Washington soon after his arrival on the scene of conflict: “Tobacco is as indispensable as the daily ration. Send further heavy consignments at once.” Yet the enemies of the weed declare it has not one redeeming feature and that indulgence in it is a vice! However, this view is fast dying out. To-day, fully 90 per cent, of the population of the world are smokers and in no part of the world is tobacco more valued and appreciated than in New Zealand where our famous toasted blends, Cut Plug No. 10 (Bulkhead), Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Cavendish, Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold have made a reputation that grows greater every year. No finer, more fragrant, or less harmful tobaccos than these are before the public
