MOTOR ACCIDENTS
AN AVERAGE OF 350 A MONTH By Teiegranh -Pres* Assoclatlor WELLINGTON, July 21. “Tile average number of motor accidents in New Zealand a month at present is about 350.” said Mr G W. Laurenson, Commissioner of Transport, in the course of a report to the meeting of tire New Zealand Road Safety Council to-day. He emphasised the value of statistics being prepared on road accidents and said: ’’lt is possibly early as yet to draw any very sound conclusions as to the relative importance of the many factors causing accidents, but individual points of importance are constantly emerging from the figures, and any special investigation likely to be of value can be made as occasion arises. As the scheme proceeds it will be possibl. to arrive at more complete conclusions from an analysis of the data over a longer period. However, a great dea' of valuable work will continue to be achieved in the meantime by attacking the various faults individually as they appear."
