On Monday, two debating teams from the W.E.A. public speaking class entertained the members of the local Douglas Credit Branch with a debate entitled “That the Credit and Money System should be Nationalised.” The leader for the affirmative was Mr A. M. Paterson, assisted by Messrs R. Hill, W. R. Haynes and J. Horlock, while Mr R. S. Wheeler was leader for the negative, assisted by Messrs E. Jones, N. J. Dickenson and V. Abraham. Mr A. D. Jackson acted as chairman. At the conclusion of the debate, which was a no decision one, Mr Jackson thanked the W.E.A. speakers for an interesting evening, and invited questions, which invitation was duly availed of by several present. The meeting closed after a spirited discussion on banking and currency matters.
