STRIKERS DEFIED

CLASHES IN NORTHERN TERRITORY United Press Association— Bv Electric Teleirraph Copvrlcbt (Received July 20, 10.20 p.m.) DARWIN, July 20. When the Marella arrived yesterday with a shipment of urgently neded foodstuffs, the waterside labourers refused to unload the vessel because of some local dispute. The Administrator of the Territory (Mr Abbott) to-day defied the strikers and called out a batch of troops, who with the aid of some Civil servants, unloaded the ship, but allowed the beer to remain on board. The Marella sails to-morrow in continuation of her voyage. A later message states that the troops unloaded only the military provisions, volunteers unloading the remainder of the cargo. The strikers are holding a meeting to-night.
