NEW CATHEDRAL

WELLINGTON SYNOD'S DECISION By Telearnnh- Prp«' •M’.r-ociation WELLINGTON, July 19. After a prolonged discussion in committee, the Wellington Diocesan Synod to-night adopted a proposal to mark the New Zealand centenary in 1940 by laying the foundation stone of the Anglican Cathedral in Wellington in that year. The corner of Molesworth Street and Hill Street, it was unanimously agreed, was the most suitable site, with the sites of St. Paul’s ProCathedrral and Ss Mark’s Church as an alternative if this could not be acquired.

Bishop Holland made a personal gift of £lOOO, stated to be half his capital, toward the building of the cathedral.
