Unusual Incident:
An unusual incident occurred in the Rugby football match between Te Aroha and Thames in the first contest for the Peace Challenge Cup. L. Burgess, a Te Aroha player, took a kick at goal from a muddy patch wide out. The ball hit the inside post, dropped near the centre of the crossbar and ran along it to hit the other post and drop over.
Otago’s Shield Team: The Otago team to defend the Ranfurly Shield against Southland on Saturday, July 31 1 will be announced to-day, and will go into training immediately. The coaching of the side will again be in the capable hands of Mr V. G. Cavanagh, who will have nearly two W’eeks in which to prepare his teain before the game with Southland. The team was not chosen earlier because of the fact that six players were away in Wellington, and consequently it would not have been possible to assemble the whole team this week.
Probable Auckland Team: The following team is likely to represent Auckland against the Springboks on Saturday:— Full-back: R. G. Bush (University). Three-quarters: J. Dick (Grafton), B. A. Killeen (Grafton), K. Byerley (Technical). Five-eighths: D. Solomon, first (Ponsonby), A. Prentice (Grafton). Half-back: W. Frankham (Ponsonby). Forwards: Front row, C. S. Pepper (Manukau), W. E. Hadley (Marist), T. H. Pearce (Manukau). Second row’, R. Anderson (Grafton), T. Lockington (Grammar), R. R. Hull (College Rifles), L. S. Drake (University). Back row, F. Solomon (Ponsonby).
