INTERNATIONAL SOCCER

ENGLAND DEFEATS AUSTRALIA United Press Association —By Rl»'trtc Tel egra nh —Conyr I ch t (Received 6.30 p.m., July 18) BRISBANE, July 18. England defeated Australia at Soccer by 4 goals to nil. Twenty-five thousand people witnessed the match, the gate receipts being £l7OO. England was clearly superior, scoring two goals in the first eleven minutes, and led at half-time by this margin. The play of the English backs was too much for the Australian attack, the forwards being unable to make any impression. England played grand football, and won very easily. Showery weather restricted the attendance. The ground was dead and slippery, but this was not responsible for Australia’s eclipse. For England goals were scored by Mathews (2), Eastham and Finch.
