EXECUTIVE MEETS
NORTH END RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION A meeting of the executive of the North End Ratepayers’ Association was held on Tuesday evening, Mr G. H. Andrews presiding. The question of a cinder track at Ashbury Park was dealt with ii. a report from a special committee appointed by the Waimataitai School Committee. the South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Association and the North End Association. In presenting the report Mr W. J. Smith stated that the committee had met the Council and had also interviewed the Minister of Employment, the proposal being well received. The Employment Board had agreed to subsidise all wages paid in the formation of the track and other work in connection with the Park. The Council had expressed its approval, and had instructed the curator to prepare a plan. This, however, had not yet been done as the Reserves Committee wished to discuss the matter further with representatives of the bodies concerned. A letter was read from the Timaru Borough Council asking that names of old identities willing to plant trees in Maori Park on Arbor Day be submitted. It was decided to advertise giving notice to those interested and willing to assist in the planting. It was also decided to ask the members of the Waimataitai School Committee and the executive of the Association to be present
Mr W. J. Smith suggested that a large illustrated plan of Timaru showing the locations of sports grounds, Timaru gardens, other parks and places of interest be placed upon Caroline Bay and in prominent places in the town for the guidance of visitors. It was decided to pass on the suggestion to the Borough Council. Mr A. M. Parker was reappointed the Association’s representative on the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce.
