AFFORESTATION PLAN

WORK FOR UNEMPLOYED By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, June 30 With the dual object of removing unemployed men from sustenance and placing them in full-time employment, and of creating national assets for future generatioiis, the Commissioner of State Forest (Hon. F. Langstone) has under consideration a five-year afforestation plan. The Minister said to-day that he had asked the Director of Forestry to bring down a five-year plan and to ascertain what Crown lands were not suitable for ordinary pastoral or agricultural purposes, with a view to having then transferred to the Forestry Department, either as provisional or permanent State forests. It was then intended to go forward with planting operations according to a proper plan.
