TRANSPORT BOARD

RELATIONS WITH UNION By Telegraph —Press Association AUCKLAND. June 30 The grievances which the Auckland tramway employees consider they have with the Auckland Transport Board were ventilated at a meeting of the Auckland Labour Representation Committee last week, and a resolution was carried favouring the setting up of a committee of three “to inquire into the Labour-like attitude of the Board, and the existing relationships between the Board and the Tramway union.” It is understood that several members of the Transport Board, including the chairman, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, attended the meeting, and that Mr Mason addressed the meeting, and answered questions. A committee of investigation has been set up, comprising Messrs F. G. Young (secretary of the Hotel Workers’ Union, chairman), H. Campbell (secretary of the Painters’ Union) and C. Matthews. It is understood that the parties involved in the dispute, which has arisen, in the inner ranks of the Labour movement, will be invited to present their respective cases at a properly constituted inquiry. Meantime, it is stated that the Union is. being requested to state the charges in writing. The exact nature of the Union’s grievance is not known. When seen tl.is morning the secretary of the Tramway Employees’ Union, Mr J. Liddell, declined to discuss the matter. “I have nothing whatever to say,” he declared.
