WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

WINCHESTER At the monthly meeting of the Winchester Women’s Institute a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Miss Prlddle. One new member, Mrs Williams, was welcomed. Mesdames Pearce and Gudsell were nominated as delegates to the group meeting. It was decided to vote £1 to the Women’s Institute depot at Timaru, and also to enter in the vase of flowers and bowl of flowers class at the Pleasant Point flower show to be held in October. Preparations were made for the birthday party to be held next week. Mrs Unwin was welcomed and congratulated on being nominated as a member of the Executive Committee. A very interesting demonstration of German knitting and weaving was given by Mrs Unwin for which she was accorded a vote of thanks. Mr Baxter, Temuka, gave a talk on health and was accorded a vote of thanks. The competitions resulted as follows: Premier bloom, Mrs Kenny 1, Mrs McBratney 2 and 3. Eggless cake, Mrs J. South 1. Mrs Kenny 2, Mrs Finell 3. Shrubs, Mrs Mcßratney 1, Mrs J. South 2 and 3. Young Women’s Clat:: Bloom, Miss D. Opie 1, Miss Joyce Gudsell 2. Eggless cake, Miss Joyce Gudsell 1 and 2. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Telfer, A. Scott and Hopkins.
