CONDITIONS IN TIMARU Another heavy frost of 14 degrees was recorded yesterday morning after which conditions were clear and sunny, although cold. In the afternoon, however, the sky became overcast, with a consequent drop in temperature, and by evening conditions threatened rain. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer—3o.34. Max. temp.—4s. Min. temp, on grass—lB. Frost—l 4 degrees. Wind —Calm. Rain —Nil. Rainfall to date this year—l2.B4in. Rainfall to date last year—l7.l3in. Sunshine —3.3 hours. Sunshine to date this year—936.Bhrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch— The weather was overcast and cold yesterday, with a very light south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 42.7. The barometer was falling and registered 30.38 in. at 5 p.m. Ashburton — The heaviest frost so far this year, of 14.5 degrees, was recorded yesterday morning. The frost followed a succession of heavy frosts, including 11 degrees on Sunday morning and 13 degrees, the previous highest recording, yesterday morning. The morning following the frost was sunny, but cold. The sky was slightly cloudy. The wind was from the north. Temuka— Yesterday was fine and cold. The maximum temperature was 44 degrees and the minimum 18. The glass was steady last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday)—Thermometer, maximum 45.0, minimum 29.0; frost, 13 degrees; bright sunshine, 6 hours 30 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 24. Yesterday was mainly overcast and cold. Dunedin— The weather yesterday was dull and misty rain fell at intervals. There was a slight breeze from the south and temperatures were cold, the maximum being 45 degrees. The thermometer continued steady at 30.45 inches. CANTERBURY FORECAST Winds —Light to moderate and variable; southerlies prevailing at first, but later north-easterlies. Weather —Cloudy at times on the coast with possibly a little drizzling rain and mist or fog in places, but for the most part fair; cold night temperatures with some sharp frosts inland. Seas—Slight to moderate.
