CAMPFIRE SONGS
VARIED WORDS FOR WELL KNOWN TUNES Some of our time-honoured campfire songs regain their lost novelty when we find new words for them. Often, too, singing loses its zest after the first verse or two. because only a few know the multitude of “unofficial” verses which follow. An Australian Scouter has thoughtfully gathered some together, and promised more. Whilst to old hands the contributor does not expect his collection will offer anything new. less experienced Scouters will find these words a useful supplement to their song books. John Brown's Body 1. John Brown's body lies a-moulding In the grave. 2. We hanged John Brown from a sour apple tree 3. John Brown's wife's got a wart upon her nose. 4. John Brown’s daughter chews ‘'terbacker’’ by the pond. 5. John Brown's baby is a Yankee-doodle-do. 6. John Brown’s body lies, a-moulding in the grave. Aunt Jemima Aunt Jemima, look at your uncle Jim, He’s in the duck pond, learning how to swim; First he does the breast stroke and then he does the side, And now he’s under the water swimming against the tide. Aunt Jemima, look at your uncle Clive, He’s in the garage learning how to drive; First he gets in low gear, now he gets in top. And now he’s out in the roadway wondering how to stop. Aunt Jemima, look at your Uncle Jim, Scrubbing out the passage with water.
soap and vim; First he kneels on the left knee, then he kneels on the right. Now he’s knelt on the bar of soap and vanishing out of sight.
Aunt Jemima, look at jour uncle Mish. He’s in the bathroom learning how to fish; First he gets the face cloth and then the shaving mug. And now he’s under the water vanishing down the plug.
